What is the Galaxy Express 999 Memorial Box?
Hi!! I am a big Leiji Matsumoto fan, most of the his newer stuff is readily available on DVD but the classic stuff that i grew up with is next to impossible to find on DVD. One of the series that i used to watch on tv when i was a kid was Galaxy Express 999 on a leased time rental UHF channel that showed Japanese programming. The show was subtitled. The movies are available on DVD, but the classic tv series I had been searching for for years has never been available.
Last night i ran across something as I was doing an internet research. It's called the Galaxy Express 999 Memorial Box and it says its the tv series. I was so excited!! There's a set 1 and a set 2 , but the description says the series runs for and exciting 36 episodes. The tv series that I remember ran for 114 eps (or is it 113? i can never get that number right!!) Is this a new series that just came out? An abridgement of the original tv series? A modern retelling of the classic story? Any info would be appreciated….
Well after all my research all I've been able to confirm is:
* the original series was 113–
* the Memorial Box is an import
*anime news network does not currently list this as a retelling, a new series etc. My feeling is that if this were a true abridgement, this would be considered a new series, or a retelling. It is possible, but not confirmed that this is the first 36 episodes. (We can hope that if it went well that a set 3 etc could eventually come out, since the original has never been released.! even though it currently says end!) My TV perfect series for other anime are imports and that is how they are issued.
*From the number of episodes, it doesn't appear to be one of the sequels
*I even checked the UK anime club website and got no further
I'm not sure this helps any at all–but at least you know you weren't ignored and that someone else had the same trouble reseaching the product. http://www.thisisanime.com/ has both in stock if you want to compare prices–

Copy Right?
How do Video and DVD rental stores rent movies and games with out violating the copy right law. How does netflix stream movies to internet customers PC's without violating copy right law?
Further clarification: As long as I do not make a copy of the DVD and I do not let the customer make a copy of it, then I can resale it by renting it to them? So I just have to get licensed as a video rental business? If I bought my content from a wholesaler that is on a harddrive, Then I should be able to resale by streaming the content and safeguarding it's from being copied by the end user?
Thanks Miles
Second part of your question first. Netflix and your Cable Tv/Satellite provider pay royalties and liscense fees to provide their downloading and viewing services.
Video stores actually did get taken to court over the issue back in the 80s. And basically it was decided that they purchased the product and are simply reselling it via rentals. It would be illegal for them to make copies of it and rent or sell the copies, but as long as it is an original product it is legal. There is nothing to stop you from going into Barnes & Noble, buying a book and then selling that book as used after you've read it. But, you can't go to a copy machine and duplicate it and sell the copies.
