Why is there not a place where you can rent Music CDs?

You know how there's a Netflix & Blockbuster for movie rentals and a Gamefly for video game rentals, so why isn't there one for music cds?
Is it because of some legality issues? The first person with the best "legal" explanation to this will get the points.
In case if there IS such a place that does music CD rentals, can you point me to your source?
It is common sense that public libraries loan out music CDs. Perhaps some of you just answered this question for the points benefit, but never thought it out first. Next time, please think before posting your answers. Because it lowers your credibility when you answer questions just to answer them and could careless if it's right or wrong. I wish they had an IQ filter where if somebody with a lower IQ, their answers would not show up at all.
I don't know if it is because it would be illegal but its because you could just rent it and copy the songs off the cd and return it instead of buying the album. Thats why you can't return an opened cd because you could have opened it, burned the music off it, and return it and get your money back. The music industry wouldn't be making money this way.
The reason why they have movie rentals though is because most movies are copy protected meaning you can't burn the movie off of it.

You asked why. Why is because there is no market for it since CDs are available through libraries free of charge and via online distribution for a nominal charge.
Ongo Bongo was such a service (2004). It didn't pan out – the site is defunct (maybe they irked Danny Elfman).

Cost. Such an entity would have to secure (pay for) mechanical distribution rights or a license to distribute (if available) – all the same things that apply with any copyrighted work (video games, movies, books, software) a business makes available to the public for a profit (or non-profit, as in your public library). But that's common sense, too.

I guess it is because it is too easy to copy the songs onto your computer. With Netflix and Blockbuster, I think it is a lot harder to copy the movies onto CD's or onto your computer because of protective software.

People the majority of people have the technology in their homes to copy cd's, even if it is illegal too. So if people rented CD's their CD sales for bought CDs would "somehow" drop. Though Dvds can also be copied it is more costly than CD's.

I think it is a pretty good idea, but I think it is because music is readily available for free, more so than movies in my opinion. If you can get it for free, why pay to rent it?
