Upconversion DVD player better than old DVD player to new Sony TV?

Sony manual says can hook up DVD players (480, 720, etc) to the component input. Does the UP-CONVERSION DVD player show better picture than the old 480 DVD player when playing rental DVD's?

NO…..they don't improve it much, IF at all…..

Save your money for an HD-DVD player like the Toshiba HDA2…

Those units IMPROVE the old DVDS……and you get HD too….

Yes they do improve your picture quality on regular dvds…not to the quality oh HDDVD or Blue Ray… but it will look better than Progressive scan DVD players…. You need to use the HDMI though for the highest quality… The upconvert will line double the images so the video quality will look a little better again not the HD level but for the twenty or so dollars more it will look better than a prog scan dvd player.
