Ways to tune your guitar
It is highly essential that you tune your guitar. You need to tune your guitar on a regular basis if you want it to sound good and make practice enjoyable. You will naturally find tuning difficult at first, but it gets better as you practice it. It is advisable that if you know someone that is a guitar player, you can have them tune your guitar for you during guitar lessons. You can also simply learn to do it yourself. You just need more practice and more patience.
There are different methods of tuning a guitar. All of the different methods are appropriate but some are more convenient than others. This is especially important if you are just beginning to learn the guitar with guitar lessons.
The easiest way to tune your guitar is by relative tuning. Relative tuning is making relative adjacent strings sound the same in pitch when played at certain frets. The string with the higher pitch is tuned to match the sound of the lower string. This method assumes that the lower string is the one that has the correct tune. If you use this method, you will have to tune the sixth string with a tuning fork or piano. This will be discussed in detail later on.
The process starts with the tuning of the sixth string. When the sixth string has been tuned, you need to press the sixth string at the fifth fret and pick the string. Follow this up with the fifth string, they should match in pitch. The sound of the fifth string should be the same as the sixth string when played on the fifth fret. If you find that the sound does not match, turn the tuning peg for that fifth string and change the pitch. Leave the sixth string be.
If the sound of the string is too low, tighten the string. The sound of the string is adjusted by loosening or tightening them. Be sure that the fifth string is tuned in comparison to the sixth string because the fifth string has to be properly tuned in order to tune the fourth string.
After that, the fourth string needs to be in tune in order to tune the third string and it continues from there. If there is a tuning mistake on any of the strings, the sound of the whole instrument will be thrown off.
If you have a piano at your disposal and you are familiar with the notes, you can tune your instrument by matching the sound of the strings with the matching notes on the piano.
To begin, find the E note of the piano and then play the sixth string or E note on your guitar. Adjust the tuning peg on the sixth string until you get the same sound as the E note of the keyboard. Do this with all the stings on the guitar.
Another helpful tool in guitar tuning is the electronic keyboard. Keyboards give you clear, precise, and loud pitch that makes it easy to tune your instrument. This method of tuning is a great choice for beginning guitarists who have access to a keyboard or for guitar players who will be working with someone who plays the keyboard.
You can also tune your guitar by using pitch pipes. These should be available at your local music store. The pitch pipes can give you several different pitches to guide you. You simply have to match the sound of each string to the proper pitch pipe. Pitch pipes are relatively cheap and easy to use. They are small and easy to carry.
Some more advanced guitar players would not be satisfied with pitch pipes because they do not have a clear pitch like an electronic tuner, tuning fork or piano.
Using a tuning fork is another prominent way of tuning the guitar and some other instruments. A tuning fork is a tool that has two prongs shaped like a ‘U’ with a stem as the handle. They are generally made of steel. The tuning fork gives off a certain pitch when it is struck against a surface, causing it to vibrate. The sound that comes from the tuning fork depends on the length the two prongs are.
The standard tuning fork that you can buy in music stores has a pitch of an A note. Tuning forks that give off this sound are easily accessible. E note tuning forks are easily accessible as well. They are also used frequently for guitars. Tuning forks are inexpensive and very handy to carry.
When using a tuning fork, hold the fork by the stem so that the prongs can vibrate freely. Make the prongs vibrate by striking them firmly against something. Be sure not to strike them on anything that will dent. Try striking it against your knee gently but decisively. Not too hard of course! After that and without touching the prongs, place the stem lightly on the guitar body. Now adjust the strings to match the sound of the tuning fork.
In order to use a tuning fork properly you will need to practice. It may be hard for a young player and a guitar player with experience will not want to carry around different tuning forks.
The preferred method of tuning a guitar is intervals. The advantage of tuning this way is that the guitar ends up having a pleasant sound that is in tune. Intervals involve tuning strings in conjunction to other strings. This is very easy when you have practiced this method for a little while.
To tune by interval, begin with the sixth string and have something such as a tuning fork or pitch pipe handy. Listen to the A note by pressing down the sixth string at the fifth fret, then you can tune the A string. Next step is to tune the fourth string to the D pitch and the fifth string at the fifth fret. Do this again with the G, B, and E strings. Play the E and B chords to see if your tuning is right. Do any adjustment you deem necessary.
Next we have harmonics. Advanced guitarists prefer using harmonics when it comes to tuning their instrument. Harmonics can be hard to learn, but the result is a very accurate tuning.
Harmonics is holding down a string lightly at the fret instead of holding it down below the fret. This is not the best tuning methods for beginners but it is mentioned here to give you a complete overview of guitar tuning.

It’s Time To Get Some Bluegrass Guitar Lessons
You’ve heard the music and you love the sounds. You’ve decided to look into getting Bluegrass Guitar Lessons. The following is a short history of how Bluegrass became the popular genre it is today.
It is probably no surprise to know that Bluegrass came from the American South and in the Appalachian mountains. Here due to the geography of the region the music developed unaffected by outside influences. The early settlers from Scotland and Ireland had brought with them their musical traditions and instruments. These mixed with the local folk music to start a style.
In the early 20th century life opened up more and African American influences such as Jazz and the blues painted their influence over this mountain music. Country music, ragtime, Gospel and folk music added to the pot to develop to become the Bluegrass we know today.
But the name Bluegrass was only applied to this sort of music during the 1950’s. Then a man called Bill Munroe named his band “the Blue Grass Boys ” due to the fact he came from Kentucky. Kentucky was well known as the Blue Grass State. With his musical popularity the term took hold.
In traditional Bluegrass music the main instruments have tended to be from the string family. These are commonly Banjo, Fiddle, upright bass, the mandolin and the acoustic guitar. Similar to Jazz each instrument may have a turn playing the melody and may improvise around the melody. The other instruments provide the backup. The inclusion of vocal is not obligatory. When vocals are included the harmonies vary from 2 part to four part. The unusual feature of Bluegrass is that the highest voice will be dissonant giving the tune a “high lonesome sound”.
It wasn’t until the 1960s that acoustic guitars were recognised as a valid solo instrument. Furthering the guitars cause was a Doc Watson, a multi talented player. His ability spawned a craze for playing flat pick guitar.
Bluegrass continues to be popular with thousands of people. As with any musical style it continues to develop and new sub-styles continue to evolve. One in particular has had some interest – NewGrass. Young musicians are mixing their Bluegrass roots with interests in other areas to produce a new form of the old style which has been dubbed Newgrass.
People have many reasons for liking Bluegrass. Some have grown up with it while others have been introduced to it through popular movies such as the Cohen brothers 2001 movie “O, Brother, Wherefore art Thou’. Bluegrass guitars lessons are a wonderful way to participate in the long history that Bluegrass music has.

Why Learning Music is Really Essential
There are people who have this belief that studying music is left to individuals who want to make a career in the industry. Unless a part of the curriculum, what would an accounting major do with a few units in Music Principles after all? In taking up voicelessons, how would an ordinary housewife use it? It is not likely that singing success could contribute in doing the household chores or taking care of one’s family. Then why know music at all?
One thing is, studying music can actually bring deeper appreciation of music itself. Skeptics may have been wondering to know but the appreciation of music brings, not only many profits to one’s physical health but also it enhances a person’s mental health. It’s been shown through different studies that music appreciation cuts the risk of hypertension and stroke. It cuts down stress which, in itself, already causes countless of health problems. Music appreciation keeps a person energized mentally and physically, it helps you sleep better and most importantly reduce muscle stress. Music appreciation can boost a person’s sleeping habits and relieve muscle stress, it also adds to people mentally and physically. A vital factor to keep yourself healthy, as some people have realized, is to have music in your life. Steve Krenz from Learn and Master Guitar is a perfect example.
Other forms of intelligence can be greatly improved by means of the study of music secondly. It has been shown by studies that those who take up a few units of music tend to stay in school longer than those who take up units that are purely associated to their field of study. There seems to be a link between music and spatial intelligence which is the ability tobuild mental pictures. Learning music has proved to be an effective means to help students organize their minds more coherently. Training for music also enhances that part of the brain which is in charge of language and reasoning.
Third, countless of possibilities could open up should you study music. The study of music will definitely make it easier for you understand and appreciate better other cultures by way of the very diverse language of music.
Fourth, the zeal for excellence and perseverance can beenhanced in studying music. The study of music rarely has a gray area between notes, it is either you’re in tune or not. Being knowledgeable with music would require the passion to learn as well as attention to details such as what style works for you and what does not work.
Self-discovery can be made by means of the avenue of learning music.
Fifth, music is a good means of conveying ones message. Music is a helpful way of expressing your self and it can eventually develop your self-esteem. People who were once painfully reserved can become more confident by finding a self-expression that they are good at. Aside from doing house work and merely taking their kids to school, even
housewives can be productive. Music is a great way of expressing yourself while at the same
time enjoying and benefiting from the process.
The course of music is nevercould not be too late or early. Its just a good thing to
begin studying music whether you want to learn how to play an instrument so you can impress friends by playing your favorite song, or whether you want to make a career out of it. Give it a shot by discovering the type of music you want to know.
